As promised, the announcement for the play arrived today. Luke Evans, along with Penelope Wilton known (“Downton Abbey”) will star in “Backstairs Billy.” This new comedy, written by Marcelo Dos Santos and directed by Michael Grandage, will take the stage at the prestigious King’s Theater.
Plot
This new comedy delves into a significant monment in the 50-year relationship between the Queen Mother and her devoted servant, William “Billy” Tallon.
Set in 1979, during a period of widespread strikes and imminent change under Margaret Thatcher’s leadership, the Queen Mother and Billy find themselves in the midst of business as usual at Clarence House. With lively receptions and abundant champagne, their worlds collide in unexpected and thrilling ways, with dizzying consequences.
The play will run from Friday 27 October 2023 to Saturday 27 January 2024.
