Egoyan & Polley Celebrate “The Sweet Hereafter”
This video truly took me back many years! The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) released a video celebrating The Sweet Hereafter (1997), directed by Atom Egoyan and led by Sarah Polley. Widely regarded as one of the most iconic Canadian films, The Sweet Hereafter is a haunting and poignant drama that examines the ripple effects of grief, guilt, and the fragmentation of a small community after a tragic school bus accident.
This year, TIFF hosted the world premiere of a new 4K restoration, featuring a conversation with Egoyan and Polley.
Among other insights, Egoyan shared that he discovered the film’s location during a family trip, immediately recognizing it as the ideal place for the story. Polley also expressed her deep admiration for Egoyan, noting that working with him was a unique and transformative experience, unlike anything she had experienced before.
