“Rivals” are coming!

We are getting closer to the premiere of “Rivals”. Although an exact release date hasn’t been announced, Disney+ has unveiled first-look images from the eight-part series (article’s photos).

Based on Cooper’s bestselling Rutshire Chronicles, “Rivals” takes place amid the excesses and antics of the power-grabbing social elite in 1980s England.

“Rivals” explores the ruthless world of independent television in 1986, focusing on the intense rivalry between ex-Olympian and current Member of Parliament Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell), a notorious womanizer, and his neighbor Lord Tony Baddingham (David Tennant), the controller of Corinium Television. Aidan Turner plays TV presenter Declan O’Hara, a fierce intellectual with an even fiercer temper who gets entangled in their feud. The cast also features “EastEnders” actor Danny Dyer as Freddie Jones, a self-made electronics millionaire, Nafessa Williams as talented American TV executive Cameron Cook, Katherine Parkinson as Lizzie Vereker, a romantic novelist whose love life has stalled, and Bella Maclean (“Sex Education”) as Taggie O’Hara, Declan’s determined daughter who unintentionally attracts Rupert’s interest

Earlier this week at the BAFTA TV Awards, Aidan Turner told Radio Times how much he enjoyed working with David Tennant and described the audience’s reaction during the screening. Turner and Danny Dyer also presented the “P&O Cruises Memorable Moment” award.
