From Shelby to Dander: The ‘Peaky Blinders’ Nod in ‘Slow Horses’
When a scenario is well-written, you can discover very interesting details. “Slow Horses” features exactly this kind of scenario.
“Slow Horses” has made a significant impact, and it’s confirmed that there will be at least two more seasons. Gary Oldman, as veteran MI5 agent Jackson Lamb, delivers an outstanding performance.
Starting from Season 2, Aimee-Ffion Edwards joined the cast of “Slow Horses” as Detective Shirley Dander. She is best known for her previous role as the wife of the late John Shelby in “Peaky Blinders.
As commander of “Slough House,” an MI5 office to which failing agents are transferred, Gary Oldman’s character appears uninterested in his agents. In this context, he often forgets their names or at least pretends to.
In one scene, he swears at Detective Cartwright (Jack Lowden) for attending a job interview elsewhere and expresses hope that “Selby” will be better than the others, subtly alluding to her previous role on “Peaky Blinders”. “Shirley,” she corrects him.
