First pics from Lanthimos’ “Poor Things”
Searchlight has announced that “Poor Things”, the highly anticipated new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, is set to be released on September 8th.
The studio has also revealed the first photos from the movie. “Poor Things” is based on a novel by Alasdair Gray and has been adapted for the screen by Tony McNamara (known for his work on “The Favourite”). The film features an all-star cast, including Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, and Kathryn Hunter.
With the fall release of “Poor Things” approaching, it is highly possible that the film will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Plot
“Poor Things” takes us back to the Victorian era, where pregnant Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) commits suicide to escape domestic abuse. However, she is revived by the brilliant and unconventional scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) who transplants the mind of her baby into her. With the doctor’s protection, Bella is determined to learn and expand her knowledge. She embarks on a thrilling adventure with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a smooth-talking and immoral lawyer, where they travel across the continents.
“Poor Things” actors Stone, Qualley and Dafoe are confirmed to also be leading Lanthimos’ next feature “AND.” The mysterious movie additionally stars “The Favourite” actor Joe Alwyn, Jesse Plemons and Hong Chau.
