Garland’s “Men” Can Be Great

It’s been a long time since a movie trailer got me excited. It wasn’t a surprise, since Alex Garland has already contibuted to the “World Cinema” as a director of “Ex Machina” and writer of “28 Days Later”. Audience might vbe confused by and criticise his latest movie “Annihilation”, but I strongly believe that this film was a masterpiece. The reasons for my belief will be analyzed in an upcoming article.

Adding Jessie Buckley – maybe the best actress of her generation – to my sympathy for Garland’s work, it created me a feeling for a topping result. Having seen her playing a huge range of roles; from a crazy nurse (Fargo) to Marya Bolkonskaya (War & Peace), I think that she can totally fit to Garland’s philosophy. Beside her, I am happy to see Rory Kinnear, a very talented actor that I have used to see mainly in supporting roles.

Plot

“In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears…”
