Top-10 Films of 2019 (part 2)
The truth is that the second part of my Top-10 Films was delayed a lot. The good news is that I added an extra film in our original ten films.
05) Midsommar

If you search for a folklore horror movie, “Midsommar” should be your choice. Florence Pugh stars as a young woman, who joins her boyfriend to a trip to to Scandinavia to visit a rural hometown’s fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. The idyllic beauty of the place soon will turn into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
04) Mon Inconnue (a.k.a. Love At Second Sight)

“Mon Inconnue”, maybe, is not well-known movie even in France, but it is the best romantic comedy of the year. The story is about a man that tries to make his wife fall in love with him again, after waking up in an alternate reality, where she never knew him. François Civil and Joséphine Japy are in the roles of the couple.
03) One Cut Of The Dead

“One Cut Of The Dead” is the most surprising movie of the year. The Japanese – a production of 2017 that released worldwide in 2019 – is what I like to refer as a “pure comedy”. Things go badly for a hack director and film crew shooting a low budget zombie movie, when they are attacked by real (or not?) zombies. The movie with only a budget of 25.000$ had a box office of more than 30 millions dollars.
02) Parasite

The most discussed and award winning movie of 2019. A real movie phenomenon from South Korea. There is nothing that hasn’t been written for this movie, so if you haven’t seen it, just seen it. For more information just read our analysis here!
01) Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (a.k.a. Portrait of a Lady on Fire)

On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the 18th century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman. Their relationship however gets stronger and stronger. You might ask yourself, if this is movie is better than “Parasite”? Probably no, but the atmosphere is great, Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel are exceptional and the ending is one of the best in the cinema history, so it is my #1 pick.
Special Mention: Fisherman’s Friends

One movie that it will be in the Top-3, but I saw after I closed the Top-10 list. The movie tells the story of how a band of professional fishermen manage to release their debut album of sea shanties. A great cast that includes James Purefoy, Daniel Mays and Tuppence Middleton compounds the feel good movie of the year. You can read our full review here!
